about
I’m Mirko Tomášek. I first travelled to Bosnia in 2019 after hearing about the abandoned Trebević bobsleigh track and Hotel Igman. That journey changed everything: amazed by the vast, still-vibrant potential of Sarajevo’s Olympic legacy, I started this website — slowly at first, due to limited time, but with a clear purpose.
I kept coming back to Sarajevo, eventually moving for a full semester to research my diploma thesis on the marketing potential of the Olympic legacy. During that time, I spoke with key legacy stakeholders and worked closely with the Olympic Museum, the Tourism Association, and the University of Sarajevo.
From that work came the idea for an educational trail along the Trebević bobsleigh track. It fully materialized only in 2025, when I returned prepared — with brand-new printed boards that I installed along the track, helping visitors and locals discover more about the 1984 Games.
Beyond my passion for Bosnia and the wider region, I’m a technology enthusiast working in the AI industry, as well as a tour guide and lecturer. The mission of Sarajevo 1984 is simple: blend history, technology, and tourism so Sarajevo’s Olympic spirit keeps inspiring future generations.
If you’d like to collaborate, support, or share an idea — get in touch. See you on Trebević.
