On the forested slopes of Trebević, right on the concrete of the 1984 Olympic bobsled track, Olympic Story leads you along a 13-stop educational trail. Each stop is placed on the original course and combines short, clear texts with QR codes and NFC taps that open extra stories, photos, videos and an audio guide on your phone.

It’s a relaxed walk through nature that doubles as a walk through Sarajevo’s Olympic past – from the bold idea to host the Games, through the building of the venues and the magic of the opening ceremony, to Vučko, Torvill & Dean, Jure Franko’s silver and the global TV broadcasts that carried Sarajevo ’84 around the world.

Behind the trail is a very personal story. A young visitor from the Czechia, moved by the neglected state of the bobsled track, decided he couldn’t just watch a symbol of Sarajevo fade away. He learned Bosnian, wrote his master’s thesis on how to revive the city’s Olympic heritage and then designed and installed the panels himself, roughly every 100 metres along the track.

In its first two months, more than 3,000 people walked the route, sparking a wave of reactions and coverage in Bosnian, Czech and Greek media – proof that Sarajevo’s Olympic story still resonates far beyond the city. Special thanks go to Bakir Šehović for his invaluable help with the Bosnian translation.

Visitors today can expect a mix of history, emotion and raw urban beauty: the rise of the Games, the war damage, and the track’s transformation into one of Europe’s most striking open-air galleries of street art.

Come, follow the curves of the old Olympic track – and let Sarajevo’s Olympic story unfold at your own pace.
